Our National Innovations Relief Team works with a range of companies, from start-ups to multinationals, to assist them in preparing claims for Research & Development tax relief. We collaborate with sectors including manufacturing, engineering, life sciences, software, and digital technologies to help identify and prepare successful tax relief claims. The variety of projects and our impressive client list will challenge you daily, fostering your professional growth.

As an Associate Director within the Innovation Reliefs Software team, you will work in a growing, specialist tax team at RSM. The role involves working directly with IT specialists across various businesses at the forefront of technology, within a global professional services firm. This position can be based in any of our Central or Scotland region offices (Birmingham, Nottingham, Leicester, Milton Keynes, Cambridge, Edinburgh, or Glasgow).

You'll make an impact by:

  1. Developing claim methodologies and managing the preparation of R&D tax relief claims for submission to HMRC.
  2. Leading interviews with clients’ technical and finance teams to advise on R&D tax relief and assist in identifying qualifying activities and expenditure.

  4. Identifying and progressing business development opportunities, pitching for work with new and existing clients.
  5. Leading as a point of contact on specific R&D software projects.
  6. Utilising your computer science or developer skills to mentor junior team members.

What we are looking for:

Are you someone who thrives on variety, loves learning, and enjoys connecting with people? If you can identify inefficiencies and are passionate about improvement, this role is ideal for you!

We value diverse experiences and perspectives. Our ideal candidate will have:

  1. In-depth knowledge of computer science and software development from prior industry experience.
  2. Good understanding of UK R&D tax incentives.
  3. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  4. Experience in preparing and submitting R&D tax relief claims.
  5. Clear and concise writing skills.
  6. Experience responding to HMRC enquiries.
