Overview
Intelligence Research Officer, National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU) – Environment Agency. The Environment Agency aims to be an intelligence-led organisation, managing threat, risk and harm through professional intelligence activities. This role supports investigations and helps prioritise and drive interventions to remove unlawful operators from waste regimes. You will pro-actively develop and access intelligence from a range of sources to inform decision making and provide actionable intelligence products for customers. Responding to incidents is a central part of our work and you will be required to have an incident role and be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract additional payment and full training; alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
Location is flexible with a mix of home and office working; travel to Birmingham and Sheffield offices may be required on occasions. Responsibilities
- Pro-actively develop and access intelligence from a range of sources to inform decision making
- Produce actionable intelligence products for internal customers
- Support investigations and help prioritise interventions to remove unlawful operators from waste regimes
- Respond to incidents; take on an incident role and provide business continuity support as required
- Contribute to a dispersed team within NECU and Environment Agency’s enforcement community across multiple regions
Experience and Qualifications
- Experience collecting and evaluating data from a wide variety of sources to produce or inform intelligence products
- Experience interrogating IT systems and databases; ability to prepare and deliver research summaries
- Enthusiasm and curiosity for finding information
- Good communication skills with the ability to listen and transmit information effectively
- Ability to represent the Environment Agency professionally with partners
- Ability to use standard IT packages; ability to retrieve information accurately
- Strong teamwork and an inclusive approach; ability to multitask and support colleagues and customers
- Flexibility to juggle administrative activities and adapt between tasks
Security and Compliance
- Security vetting checks (SC and NPPV3) will be required
- Note: Environment Agency is not part of HM Civil Service; eligibility for continuous service may vary
