Overview
As an Intelligence Technical Officer in the Environment Agency’s National Environmental Crime Unit, you will build confidence and capability across area teams in intelligence‑led ways of working and the use of intelligence systems, to build a greater understanding of the Threat, Risk and Harm and drive a better approach to tackling environmental offending and protect officer safety.
This is a new role within the Intelligence and Partnerships team. You will support area teams by providing Memex training and promote the use and benefits of Memex and improve the quality of intelligence submitted. You will provide face to face training on the MEMEX system and support area teams to submit intelligence and conduct searches. You will supervise intelligence logs to ensure high quality submissions and create entities from Memex submissions. You will provide regular reports on performance and feedback on ways to improve performance and ensure high standards of intelligence submissions.
Responding to incidents is a central part of the role. You must be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident, which may attract additional payment and full training. The team focuses on managing and developing all criminal intelligence for the Environment Agency and collaborating with partners to drive an intelligence‑led approach to tackling environmental crime across regimes.
Responsibilities
- Provide face‑to‑face training on MEMEX and promote its use and benefits.
- Support area teams to submit intelligence, conduct searches, and maintain high data quality.
- Supervise intelligence logs to ensure quality submissions and create entities from Memex data.
- Provide regular performance reports and recommendations for improvement.
- Respond to incidents and provide business continuity support as required.
- Contribute to a diverse and inclusive workforce and support flexible working patterns.
- Travel to Birmingham and other offices as required; location is flexible with some travel.
Experience and Skills (Qualifications)
- Understanding of intelligence and intelligence systems.
- Ability to advocate an intelligence‑led approach and embed it across teams.
- Excellent influencing skills; ensure Memex use and safety checks are mandatory.
- Strong relationship building and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Ability to create and deliver engaging, inclusive training.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide feedback on intelligence submissions.
- Strong self‑management, organisational skills, and teamwork.
- Comfort with working in a dispersed team and attending interviews via Microsoft Teams in October.
