Overview

As an Intelligence Technical Officer in the Environment Agency’s National Environmental Crime Unit, you will build confidence and capability across area teams in intelligence-led ways of working and the use of intelligence systems, to build a greater understanding of the Threat, Risk and Harm and drive a better approach to tackling environmental offending and protect officer safety. This is a new role within the Intelligence and Partnerships team. You will support area teams by providing Memex training and promote the use and benefits of Memex and improve the quality of intelligence submitted.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

Responsibilities

  • Provide face-to-face training to area staff on our Intelligence system, MEMEX.
  • Provide support and training to enable area teams to submit intelligence and conduct searches.
  • Supervise intelligence logs to ensure a high standard of quality in submissions.
  • Create entities from Memex submissions.
  • Provide regular reports on performance and feedback on ways to improve performance.
  • Ensure high standards of quality of intelligence submissions.
  • Other duties commensurate with the role.

Team context

The Intelligence Team manages and develops all criminal intelligence for the Environment Agency. Made up of several roles and disciplines, we build and maintain strong relationships with our partners to work as one enforcement community and drive our intelligence-led approach to tackling environmental crime across many regimes. The team provides a professional and timely service and is focused on continuously improving how we do things to meet customers’ needs.

Experience / skills required

  • Self-motivated and proactive applicants who can demonstrate:

    • Excellent influencing skills, ensuring Memex use is the norm and safety checks are mandatory.

Location, working patterns and travel

You will need to be comfortable with working in a dispersed team. Location is flexible and we support smarter ways of working through a mixture of home and office working; however travel to Birmingham and other offices where staff are based will be required on occasions.
