Job Title: Interim Finance Director – Germany

Commitment: Interim, full-time 6 months initially

Location: London with Travel to Germany

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Interim Finance Director to lead the establishment of a new German entity within a Private Equity backed, high-capex, infrastructure-focused business. This role will be pivotal in ensuring that the entity is set up on a strong foundation across finance, legal, tax, and audit dimensions, providing both strategic oversight and hands-on execution. The successful candidate must be fluent in German (spoken and written) and able to navigate local requirements confidently while aligning with the wider group’s international framework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Entity Set-Up: Lead the end-to-end establishment of the German legal entity, including registration, governance framework, and statutory obligations.
  • Finance Infrastructure: Design and implement robust finance processes and controls, ensuring alignment with group policies and scalable to support significant capital investment projects.
  • Banking & Treasury: Establish local banking relationships, open accounts, and implement cash management and treasury processes to support operational and investment needs.
  • Tax, Audit & Compliance: Coordinate the setup of local statutory reporting, audit relationships, and tax compliance requirements.
  • Legal & Governance: Oversee the legal structure and governance framework of the German entity, ensuring compliance with German corporate law.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Act as the key interface with local advisors (legal, tax, and audit) and group leadership to ensure timely and accurate delivery.
  • Operational Support: Establish local banking, treasury, payroll, and other finance-related infrastructure to support business operations.
  • Strategic Alignment: Ensure the German entity integrates smoothly into the wider international structure, optimising efficiency and compliance.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven track record as a Finance Director or senior finance leader, ideally with experience in setting up legal entities in Germany.
  • Private equity experience is essential.
  • Fluent in German (spoken and written) and strong English communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in high-capex, infrastructure or capital-intensive industries.
  • Deep knowledge of German corporate law, tax, audit, and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Strong network and experience working with external advisors (legal, tax, audit, and regulatory).
  • Hands-on, pragmatic approach with the ability to operate strategically and operationally.
