As an Investigations Manager – Core Business, you will be part of a dynamic investigations team working locally and nationally within the Investigation, Oversight and Casework directorate. Your responsibilities include setting investigation directions, understanding capacity, and making case decisions.
Alongside the Investigations Manager - Performance and Resourcing and Investigations Manager – Core Business, you will provide strategic leadership to investigative teams, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, robust, and independent investigations while embodying our core values.
You will oversee a team of Investigations Team Leaders - Core Business, accountable for the quality, timeliness, and efficiency of investigations.

Main Responsibilities
- Leadership and general:
- Provide strategic and operational leadership to ensure high-quality investigations.
- Maintain consistent investigation delivery against policy and performance standards.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to meet the IOPC’s strategic objectives, including Stakeholder Engagement, Oversight, and Engagement Directors.
- Participate in the wider Investigations senior management team to shape strategic direction.
- Support the on-call function, advising on cases involving deaths, serious injuries, and other referrals.

The Ideal Candidate
Experience
- Proven leadership in managing teams in complex investigations, preferably within regulatory, oversight, or public sectors.
- Strong track record in delivering independent, high-quality investigations.
- Experience in driving team performance and continuous improvement.
- Expertise in investigation methodologies for complex cases.
- Experience in strategic management and workforce planning.
- Financial management skills, including budgeting.
- Experience managing disclosure in investigations.
- Leadership through change, motivating staff to adapt to new practices.
- Experience working within a matrix management structure.
- Valid driving license for England and Wales.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret complex legislation.
- Motivational leadership and people development skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure with competing priorities.
- High credibility and decision-making ability, including legal considerations.
- Excellent report writing, presentation, and influencing skills.

- Understanding of UK policing.
