Join to apply for the IT Network Manager role at The Carp Society.
Are you looking for a career where your IT network expertise keeps one of the UK’s busiest rail networks connected, secure, and moving every day?
We are seeking an IT Network Manager to join our team based from our Head Office in London Bridge (hybrid working). In 2025 we celebrate the 200th anniversary of the first-ever passenger rail journey, and we are celebrating our proud history and bright future.
What You’ll Do
You will provide inspirational leadership to your network team responsible for keeping the South Eastern’s mission‑critical network running smoothly across over 200 sites in the South East—including stations, depots, offices, and data centres.
Our train operations depend on this network, so reliability and performance are key. As we finalize our transition from a legacy setup to a modern Fortinet SD‑WAN infrastructure, you’ll play a vital role in shaping the future of our connectivity. This is your chance to be part of a major transformation journey, ensuring that the new technology is fully optimized and deployed.
Supporting the Head of IT, you will be accountable for the performance and security of the organisation’s network and work with our network circuit providers and core switch support partners to ensure network uptime is maximized while maintaining the integrity, security, and performance of network traffic.
You will also lead on ad‑hoc business projects as our network SME and play a vital role in IT governance.
Experience You’ll Need
SD‑WAN experience, ideally Fortinet/Fortigate (critical requirement).
Strong understanding of networking fundamentals and implementations.
Knowledge of network security principles and securing networks against threats.
Familiarity with traffic management, performance monitoring, and automation.
Awareness of external threats and the ability to keep the network resilient.
Focus on continual improvement and leveraging the full capability of existing kit.
Ability to lead, coach, and develop a team.
Ability to balance large workloads and prioritize effectively.
Able to communicate clearly and manage stakeholder expectations.
Calm under pressure, able to drop everything in a crisis and be hands‑on.
Other Things To Know
This vacancy may close early if we receive a large number of applications, so make sure you apply early.
All offers of employment are subject to satisfactory references, a right to work verification, a basic criminal record check, and a pre‑employment medical assessment. Work visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
If you applied but were not successful in getting a similar role at South Eastern, please wait six months before applying again.
What You’ll Get In Return
A final salary pension.
25 days annual leave allowance (plus bank holidays).
Free rail travel across our networks.
