An exciting opportunity has arisen for a knowledgeable IT Control and Assurance Specialist to join a highly respected technology risk function based in Manchester. This role is central to maintaining trust with clients and regulators by providing robust assurance over the technology control environment.

You will be at the forefront of implementing and enhancing a European IT control testing framework, ensuring that the organisation remains resilient and compliant amidst an ever-evolving regulatory landscape. With a focus on both current and emerging regulations such as DORA, the EU AI Act, and data privacy frameworks, this position offers you the chance to make a tangible impact on operational resilience.

What you’ll do

  • Develop and maintain an annual IT control testing plan that aligns with organisational objectives, regulatory requirements, and risk assessments.
  • Execute detailed walkthroughs and rigorous testing of IT general controls (ITGCs) and application controls identified through Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) processes.
  • Drive the implementation and ongoing enhancement of the IT Control Testing Framework across multiple European entities while ensuring alignment with global standards.
  • Evaluate operational resilience measures in line with DORA, FCA rules, GDPR, UK GDPR, EU Data Act, EU AI Act, and other relevant regulations.
  • Partner with technology owners, developers, and project teams to provide practical advice on control design for new systems or infrastructure changes.

What you bring

  • A minimum of 3-5 years\' experience in IT Audit, IT Risk Management or Technology Control Testing within financial services or similarly regulated industries is essential for success in this role.
  • Practical knowledge of leading IT control frameworks such as COBIT, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, or ITIL is required to navigate complex environments.
  • Strong understanding of key regulations including Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), GDPR, DPA, DORA as well as awareness of major emerging regulations like the EU AI Act is vital.
  • Demonstrable experience testing controls across cybersecurity domains including cloud environments (AWS/Azure), DevOps practices, change management processes, access management protocols, and core IT operations is necessary.
  • Hands-on experience using Governance Risk & Compliance (GRC) platforms such as Archer for managing controls is expected.
  • A bachelor\'s degree in information technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science or related field provides a solid foundation for this position. Certifications in CISA or C-Risk also beneficial.
  • Excellent communication skills to articulate complex technical issues clearly to both technical specialists and non-technical audiences alike.
