The Opportunity

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Lead Bridge Engineer to join our Amey Consulting team in Manchester/Newcastle/Sheffield, with shared office space, attending office when necessary, and remaining days working remotely. We welcome applications from Lead Engineers across this region.

Our Amey Consulting Structures Team is involved in designing some of the largest civil engineering and associated infrastructure projects across Scotland with cumulative values in excess of £1bn.

Amey manages both the Southwest and Northeast Trunk Road Network Management contracts, awarded in 2020 and 2022 respectively. These are 8-year contracts, extendable up to 12 years. We also have a diverse portfolio of major roads, bridges, and transportation projects with Transport Scotland, Local Authorities, and contractors nationwide.

These long-term contracts offer excellent opportunities for technical, engineering, and professional development at all career stages, involving some of the most exciting engineering projects related to Scotland’s arterial road network.

The role

Our Lead Bridge Engineers play a key role within the Design team and alongside Transport Scotland. As a Lead Senior Engineer, you will support your Design Team Leader on various Civil schemes, lead projects, and mentor junior designers.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Leading a team to produce technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant standards and client requirements.
  2. Preparing and checking designs, calculations, drawings, and documentation to meet quality, cost, and schedule criteria.
  3. Overseeing junior staff and taking responsibility for their work.
  4. Managing project budgets and controlling costs.
  5. Liaising with clients and suppliers, attending meetings, and responding to queries.
  6. Contributing to bid preparation and work-winning activities.
  7. Promoting health and safety within the team.
