We are seeking a Legal Counsel to provide expert legal advice and support within the energy sector. The role is based in Surrey and requires a proactive professional with a strong understanding of legal practices and regulations.

Description
1. Advise on a wide range of legal matters.
Supports the General Counsel to provide proactive legal advice to senior management.
Monitors and updates the company on significant legal developments or trends.
Ensures policies are up to date and meet legal requirements as well as industry standards, working with relevant business teams to develop, review, and implement policies that support the business.
Supports corporate governance by drafting board minutes and ensuring company administration, including Companies House filings and registers, are up to date and accurate.
2. Draft, review and help negotiate legal agreements.
Ensures contractual terms effectively manage risk and safeguard the company, proactively proposing revisions to reduce risk exposure.
Collaborates with internal stakeholders to tailor agreements to specific business needs.
Drafts, reviews, and helps negotiate legal documents including commercial contracts, NDAs, options, leases and easements, supplier contracts and sales term sheets.
Supports the rollout of a centralised contract management system to monitor key obligations, renewal dates, and compliance with contractual terms.
3. Manage and coordinate external legal counsel.
Coordinates external counsel with consideration of when instructed.
Keeps finance updated on accrued legal fees.
Ensures legal files are clearly saved and organized.
4. Other ad-hoc legal tasks.
Stays informed about upcoming legal changes by participating in workshops, webinars and other professional development.
Collaborates with other departments to integrate legal considerations into business strategies.
Attends internal project development meetings and ensures regular legal updates are shared.
Profile
Law degree and qualified as a solicitor.
Strong knowledge of relevant areas of law.
Good written and verbal communication abilities with the ability to simplify complex legal concepts.
Pro‑active, initiates strong ability to prioritise with excellent time‑management skills.
Accurate, highly organised with keen attention to detail.
Practical and logical; able to solve problems quickly.
Personable and approachable, with the ability to build strong relationships across all levels of the organisation.
