Overview
Our client, a pioneering government arm’s-length body driving the UK’s energy security and net‑zero ambitions, is seeking a talented Legal Counsel to join their growing legal team.
This is a rare opportunity to play a key role in shaping the future of Britain’s clean energy strategy at a time of major transformation for the nuclear and wider energy sector. The successful candidate will provide high‑quality, pragmatic legal advice across a range of strategic projects and operational matters that support the organisation’s mission to deliver sustainable, secure, and low‑carbon energy for generations to come.
Responsibilities
Provide clear, commercially focused legal advice across a wide range of business activities and strategic projects.
Support and collaborate with project teams and central functions to enable effective, risk‑balanced decision‑making.
Partner with senior legal colleagues to oversee legal workstreams and manage external legal counsel.
Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and other legal documents relating to infrastructure, commercial, and regulatory matters.
Contribute to the development of standard documentation, processes, and procedures to improve efficiency within the legal function.
Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and governance frameworks, including procurement and public law.
Build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, helping to embed a culture of proactive legal engagement.
Requirements
Qualified solicitor or barrister in England and Wales.
Minimum of 2 years PQE (applications from more experienced candidates are welcome).
Strong drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
Ability to manage complex legal matters with sound judgement and commercial acumen.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence and advise stakeholders at all levels.
A proactive, adaptable mindset with a focus on delivering practical solutions.
Experience in infrastructure, projects, or complex commercial transactions.
Understanding of public procurement, subsidy control, or public law.
Experience working in‑house, within the public sector, or in highly regulated industries.
