Title: Linux Systems Administrator - Red Hat, RHEL, Ubuntu, VMware, Data Centre

Location: Remote

Salary: Up to £65,000 per annum + On-call (1 in 5)

Type: Permanent

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and manage Linux servers (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, Oracle Linux) using automation where possible
  • Maintain high availability and performance of Data Centre and Cloud systems, minimising disruption due to change or incidents
  • Configure, manage, and monitor SAN storage, Blade Server infrastructure, and related hardware
  • Administer VMware environments (vSphere, ESXi, vCenter), including VM deployment, migration, snapshots, and performance tuning
  • Configure and maintain Data Protection platforms such as Commvault, Dell EMC Networker, and Zerto
  • Collaborate with DBA, Network, Application, Systems, and Service Desk teams on projects, upgrades, migrations, and architecture improvements
  • Conduct regular Disaster Recovery (DR) testing and maintain comprehensive DR documentation
  • Monitor system performance, carry out capacity planning, and optimise resources for compute and storage environments
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation, diagrams, and runbooks for all systems and processes
  • Participate in out-of-hours on-call rotation (1 in 5) and respond to critical incidents
  • Stay current with emerging trends, best practices, and new technologies in Linux, virtualisation, storage, and cloud computing

Required Skills & Experience

  • Extensive Linux administration experience (RHEL preferred)
  • VMware administration (vSphere, ESXi, vCenter)
  • Data Centre operations experience with Blade Servers and SAN storage
  • Strong understanding of high availability, disaster recovery, and Cloud infrastructure principles
  • Experience with automation tools, monitoring, and scripting (shell, Python, Ansible, etc.)
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and handle critical incidents efficiently
