About Us
Great Britain's electricity infrastructure is undergoing an ambitious, exciting and vital transformation. Together with industry, we are creating a cleaner, greener system, one that protects the planet and serves generations to come.
To help deliver national renewable energy projects
As a Marine Project Manager, you’ll be working on some of the biggest, most exciting projects in green energy, supporting the Senior Marine Project Manager in overseeing and managing marine infrastructure projects.
As we make the move to Net Zero, we’re looking for 2 x Marine Project Managers to help deliver our portfolio of subsea cable projects in the UK. These include our Eastern Green Link 4 and Eastern Green Link 5 project, comprising an HVDC link, transferring 2GW of green energy between Scotland and England.
Your role will involve project management responsibilities, ensuring smooth project execution and successful delivery of the marine elements of one of these projects. You will help to define marine ways of working and promote positive marine working environments. As you do this you’ll be supported and trained to progress through the National Grid Project Management framework.
This role is predominantly based from home with some travel required.
You will be working within a very niche, dynamic environment at the heart of the energy transition.
About You
What we do isn’t just important – it’s essential. That’s why we look to recruit experts in their field. In this case, we’re looking for someone who:
- You are a logical problem solver with an eagerness to learn and a hunger to succeed. You are positive and want to contribute, not just in terms of your day-to-day role but to our larger Net Zero aims too. You are committed to a cleaner energy future and highly motivated to make a difference.
- Ideally, you'd already have some experience working in marine, engineering or utilities sectors. Technical knowledge of subsea cable installation would be desirable.
- Experience of managing offshore survey operations or similar would be advantageous. One of the key responsibilities of the role on EGL4 will be to lead the management of a series of UXO surveys starting from 2026.
- You’ll need a driving licence, the ability to travel as required, and there might be some overnight travel too. There will be some flexibility required to work outside of normal hours, and perhaps most of all, a willingness to do whatever it takes to successfully deliver your projects.
- As a project manager, you possess a relevant skill set that includes strong organisational and communication skills, allowing you to work effectively in a team environment. Your excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities further enhance your qualifications.
- Ideally, you have knowledge of procurement processes, contract management, and supplier relationship management, which will be advantageous in this role. Additionally, your familiarity with project management principles and practices will contribute to your success in leading projects efficiently.
What You'll Do
- You will support the Senior Project Manager to administer the marine elements of the EPC contract and marine survey contracts.
- Drafting contractual communications and supporting the Senior Project Manager with any other contractual matters, such as reviewing compensation events, issuing instructions, programme acceptance, and payment application reviews.
- Supporting the Senior Project Manager in successfully managing project budgets and accurately forecasting spend profiles.
- Support with reporting of financial information such as contractor spend and forecast, internal spend and forecast, contingencies and material purchases.
- Help to ensure financial efficiency. You will work with contractors to develop a project’s scope as efficiently as possible.
- Assisting the Senior Project Manager in successfully identifying, quantifying, and managing risks on your projects.
- Support with collating and maintaining an up-to-date risk register and reporting on it on a monthly basis.
- Supporting the Senior Project Manager in maintaining positive relationships with stakeholders. Communicating with stakeholders in a timely, clear, concise and professional way.
- Attending meetings and public events and responding to correspondence and talking to the media as necessary.
- Project schedules
You will help to monitor the impact of marine resource availability, weather, and environmental factors on projects’ timelines.
- Marine works budget
- SHEQ
Working with the project team to help drive exceptional safety standards. You will undertake safety leadership tours, sensible monitoring of work activities, and set the standards on projects across the wider business.
You will be key to the marine works SHEQ management, communicating in a clear, timely way to ensure safe systems of work and a positive end result.
You will promote offshore wellbeing, ensuring contractors have good processes and understanding of marine working environments.
Some project personnel will be working on offshore vessels for extended periods; you will look at what we can do to positively influence their environment on such projects.
- Project governance
During interaction with stakeholders such as other seabed users, you will liaise with our legal and external affairs teams to coordinate responses.
- Project engineering
During the delivery phase you will work closely with the EPC contractor to plan and execute the marine cable installation and associated works.
What You'll Get
A competitive salary between £54,000 - £65,000– dependent on capability.
As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.
About Us
The British Energy Security Strategy set out the Government's ambition to connect up to 50GW of offshore generation to the electricity network by 2030. Facilitating this ambition will require significant reinforcements to the onshore electricity transmission network. National Grid Strategic Infrastructure will make this happen.
Here at National Grid, we connect homes and businesses to power, making sure supply and demand match each other. We make sure the lights are on in schools, operating theatres, and sporting arenas; we’re thousands of people working on behalf of millions of people.
Our investment in Strategic Infrastructure via the Great Grid Upgrade will mean more home grown power, greater energy security and a cleaner future.
Whatever your role, wherever you work with us, you’ll help us hit stretching targets and achieve our far-reaching goal: to secure, clean energy that supports our world far into the future. Here, you will be at the heart of energy.
