Location: Hybrid: Primarily based at Cosmic HQ near St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, with opportunities for home working

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Hours: Permanent, 27 days plus bank holidays (prorated for 0.6FTE)

Base pay range

Provided by Cosmic. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience.

About Cosmic

Cosmic is a small but mighty children’s charity, dedicated to supporting the incredible work of the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, and Queen Charlotte’s Hospital, Hammersmith. We provide vital funding for life‑saving equipment, specialist staff training, pioneering research, and family support services – helping to make a real difference for children and families when they need it most.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the team to develop and execute a communications plan supporting Cosmic’s calendar of events, income generation and volunteering.
  • Manage supporter communications through Mailchimp, including scheduling updates and mail merges.
  • Produce and distribute the charity’s supporter and corporate newsletters, and other direct marketing materials.
  • Develop a GDPR‑compliant method to gather data from families and translate it into fundraising campaigns.
  • Create engaging campaigns to generate income and liaise with celebrity partners for media engagement.
  • Maintain a media bank and secure consent forms for photographs.
  • Assist fundraising teams in sourcing free advertising opportunities.
  • Work with stakeholders to maximise media opportunities and write press releases covering services, events and campaigns.
  • Plan and execute stewardship and engagement events with the Cosmic Events Team.
  • Support the development and delivery of the Cosmic ambassador strategy.
  • Gather patient, family, unit and staff stories for promotional purposes and build relationships on the wards.
  • Keep charity notice boards updated and contribute to the quarterly Trustee report.
  • Log all communication on the Cosmic CRM (Donorfy).
  • Manage Cosmic’s social media channels and implement a consistent, engaging social media plan.
  • Lead the digital transformation of Cosmic’s website and other digital channels, ensuring optimal UX.
  • Create digital designs for all marketing materials on Canva.
  • Design and launch a new range of fundraising merchandise and marketing materials.
  • Develop high‑quality materials for proposals, events and activities, and aid promotion.
  • Formalise a clear Cosmic Tone of Voice and brand guidelines, and build a curated content library.
  • Ensure internal templates use the correct colour palette, format and logo.
  • Balance and prioritise support requests from the Cosmic Team.
  • Respond to calls and emails professionally.
  • Maintain and update the charity’s contact database, improving data recording and analysis.
  • Support volunteers during activities and develop supporter journeys using personas.
  • Evaluate campaign success, track key metrics and report on communications.
  • Build relationships across Cosmic, NHS units and stakeholders to identify collaboration opportunities.
  • Stay informed about fundraising sector trends and apply them to Cosmic’s work.
  • Undertake any other commensurate tasks, adhering to the time‑in‑lieu policy.

Who We’re Looking For

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Previous marketing or communications experience, ideally in the charity sector.
  • Proven success designing and delivering communications plans and campaigns.
  • Experience pitching stories/collaborations to media, journalists and influencers.
  • Ability to create engaging written and visual content and stay ahead of media trends.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences.
  • Experience creating Canva marketing materials and managing communications campaigns.
  • Experience managing social media channels that drive results.
  • Proficiency with WordPress, Mailchimp, and CRM solutions.
  • Confidence liaising with NHS staff, supporters and celebrity partners.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Creative thinking and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of GDPR and data protection best practices.
  • Genuine passion for Cosmic’s mission and values.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Experience in a charity or fundraising environment.
