Mental Health Support Team (MHST) Senior Practitioner

Overview

Band 6 - Mental Health Practitioner (Mental Health Support Teams). MHSTs support children, young people and their families with links to identified school settings. Each MHST collaborates with schools and other agencies covering up to 7,000 children and young people. The service aims to increase early access to services and preventative provision.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver interventions within schools and colleges and hold an individual caseload.
  • Work with Children & Young People (CYP), their families and school staff to foster a Whole School Approach to mental wellbeing.
  • Support development of curriculum content to ensure pupils are taught about mental health in the classroom.
  • Supervisory responsibility of junior colleagues (with opportunity to enrol on a supervisor's course funded by the service).
  • Provide supervision to support EMHP and CWP junior colleagues in their clinical roles and participate in a robust supervision programme.
  • Graduate qualified health care professional role (e.g., Nurse, CWP, EMHP, Social Worker, IAPT CBT Therapist or OT).

Location & Details

Location: Maidstone area (Maidstone Studios, Vinters Park, New Cut Road, Maidstone ME14 5NZ).
Contract: Permanent. Working pattern: Full-time, Part-time, Job share, Flexible working, Compressed hours.

Salary & Benefits

Band 6 salary: £38,682 to £46,580 per annum. Flexible working options may be considered to promote work-life balance.

Main Duties

As part of the role, deliver clinical interventions within school settings and maintain an individual caseload. Experience with CBT interventions for anxiety, low mood, and behavioural problems is desirable. Training and CPD opportunities are provided alongside supervision to develop low-intensity CBT skills and Whole School Approach delivery.

Skills & Qualifications

Essential

  • Graduate health care professional qualification (e.g., Nurse, CWP, EMHP, Social Worker, IAPT CBT Therapist or OT).
  • Good knowledge and ability to apply CBT interventions.
  • Confident working withChildren/Young People and education settings.
  • Willingness to learn and develop both clinical and supervisory skills.
  • Aware of safeguarding importance and the role of a Mental Health professional in this context.

Desirable

  • Eligibility for registration with the appropriate professional body (e.g., HCPC, NMC).
  • Formal CBT training (e.g., CYP-IAPT).
  • Experience delivering CBT to CYP and families; experience working with schools; experience running therapy groups or training events; experience supervising staff.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Knowledge of the education system.
  • Experience delivering CBT interventions to CYP and families.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of safeguarding legislation and policies relating to children and adolescents.
  • Experience with Electronic Patient Systems (RIO/SystemOne).

Other Requirements

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check is required. UK registration with the relevant professional body is required. Applications from those requiring skilled worker sponsorship will be considered in line with UKVI guidance.
