We want to recruit a passionate, methodical and creative individual to lead our Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) Technical Team. The role is pivotal in embedding our ambitions of strengthening the health, safety and wellbeing culture and behaviours across the organisation.
- Act as a senior HSW professional within the HSW Team and fulfil the ‘competent’ person legal requirement in the absence of the Deputy Director for Health, Safety & Wellbeing.
- Lead the design, documentation, review and continuous improvement of the HSW management systems ensuring they align to the ISO45001 and ISO45003 standards.
- Lead the development of clear, accessible, policy and standards that explains people’s roles and responsibilities and the competence required to deliver legal and other duties.
- Lead on the development and continuous improvement of the risk assessment process to ensure that all significant HSW risks are identified.
- Lead on the development of HSW training and awareness materials that are easily accessible and designed to explain to the audience what they need to do to stay safe and well.
- Lead on how HSW information is shared and presented to ensure it can be easily accessed and understood.
- Provide and input into regular progress updates for STA, EDT, EA Board and other senior level governance meetings.
- Establish and maintain good relationships with internal and external partners to influence their activities and promote and enhance the EA’s goals and ambitions.
Experience/skills Required:
- A strong understanding and experience of Health, Safety & Wellbeing management in the Environment Agency.
- Experience and understanding of the Health, Safety & Wellbeing management systems including ISO45001, 45003 and 9001.
- Strong, verbal, written and analytical skills and the ability to communicate and engage with the confidence to present and influence individuals at all levels.
- Able to think strategically and respond quickly and flexibly to evolving priorities and comfortable to make decisions and set direction.
- NEBOSH Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety Management Professionals, or equivalent.
- Chartered membership of IOSH or equivalent (or evidence of working towards).
As Health, Safety and Wellbeing is a national team, the role is hybrid and can be undertaken from anywhere in the country. Travel expectations are flexible. Health, Safety and Wellbeing have bi‑annual face‑to‑face whole service meetings, often in Birmingham, Bristol or London.
