Principal Nuclear Safety Engineer

Hybrid Working | Permanent

Salary up to £65,000 plus package

Due to the nature of the programme, candidates must be sole British nationals and eligible for SC clearance

Copello are working with a long-standing client in the engineering and infrastructure sector to recruit a Principal Nuclear Safety Engineer for a high-profile, long-term nuclear programme.

This is a great opportunity for someone who thrives in technically complex environments and enjoys getting into the detail of nuclear safety case development, risk assessments, and supporting build and commissioning activity on nuclear plant systems. You’ll be joining a team that plays a critical role in ensuring nuclear safety is maintained across the full engineering lifecycle—from early design all the way through to testing and operational handover.

What you’ll be doing:

• Supporting (and sometimes leading) safety case input across a large-scale nuclear construction and commissioning programme
• Advising on compliance, deviations, and design integrity for nuclear systems
• Working closely with engineers, regulators, and stakeholders to resolve issues as they come up
• Providing well-reasoned technical advice and high-quality documentation
• Contributing to build assurance and helping shape safety strategies throughout delivery
• Stepping in to support the senior leadership team when needed

What we’re looking for:

• A solid background in nuclear engineering or safety, ideally with experience in design, build, or commissioning environments
• Understanding of safety case development and assessment of changes to nuclear systems
• Confident writing technical reports and explaining complex ideas clearly
• Comfortable working across multi-disciplinary teams and engaging with regulators or client-side stakeholders
• Degree in a relevant STEM subject—or equivalent experience in a safety-critical environment
