The Operations & Safety (O&S) group within II provides high-value advisory services, enabling sustainable and safe operating solutions for public and private sector clients, including Highways, Transport Scotland, West of England Combined Authority (WECA), and Grid, supporting Net Zero and Vision Zero safety objectives.
The O&S group specializes in six technical areas:
- Operational safety: Helping clients understand and mitigate safety risks in designs, operations, and technologies.
- Transport network operations: Assisting in the development and assessment of operational models, concepts, standards, and procedures.
- Human-centered design: Applying principles of human factors, ergonomics, and behavioral science to design environments, systems, products, and services.
- Strategy development: Advising on creating sustainable, resilient, and people-focused strategies using business cases and innovation techniques, including Digital Roads and Connected Plant.
- Policy monitoring and evaluation: Providing multi-disciplinary monitoring and evaluation aligned with Treasury requirements through designed frameworks.
- Tunnel systems & operations: Supporting clients in the design, operation, and management of tunnels in highway and utility sectors.
We are seeking enthusiastic consultants at all levels to support these capabilities. Current vacancies are open—search for ‘Intelligent Infrastructure’.
We'd love to hear from you if you have:
- A technical background with relevant qualifications (degree or similar higher education) in any of the listed technical areas.
- Experience working on consultancy-style projects aligned with these areas.
- Proven ability to analyze, interpret, and communicate information effectively.
- Experience working as a client, consultant, or contractor, ideally in transport, public sector, or high-risk environments.
