Overview

We’re looking for a passionate and strategic Outdoor Recreation Manager to lead the planning, delivery, and growth of our outdoor sport initiatives. This role focuses on engaging diverse community groups, developing partnerships, and promoting active lifestyles through outdoor sport and recreation. This is a full-time, permanent post working 37 hours a week, Monday to Friday. There is flexibility for hybrid working—office-based at Aylestone Leisure Centre or remote from home to suit your needs—though you will be expected to travel across the city for site visits and other duties.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community groups to identify and develop new opportunities for outdoor sport engagement across different demographics.
  • Design and implement fresh programs to increase participation in outdoor sports and physical activities, with safety, inclusion, and sustainability at the core.
  • Work closely with sports clubs, local authorities, and other stakeholders to support program delivery.
  • Ensure successful programs through sufficient marketing, events, and outreach activities to raise awareness and encourage involvement.
  • Manage funding applications, budgets, and monitor project outcomes.
  • Lead and manage the service approach to the operation of Sport on Park bookings and Humberstone Heights Golf Course.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Proven experience in managing outdoor sport or physical activity programs.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and networking skills to liaise with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Solid understanding of community engagement and inclusion principles and the ability to manage multiple projects and budgets effectively.
  • Enthusiasm for outdoor sports, active recreation, and promoting healthy lifestyles.
