Main purpose of the role & responsibilities in the business: As a Platform Technical Architect (Consultant) in Kainos, you’ll lead teams developing high quality solutions on public cloud that delight our customers. You’ll work with customer architects to design, automate, build and support modern digital service platforms, advise on estimated effort and technical implications of user stories and decisions. It’s a fast-paced environment and you’ll be trusted to make sound, reasoned decisions while continually learning and applying new technologies with talented colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Work as part of a wider team to provide leadership alongside engineering, testing, consulting, product management and security capabilities to design solutions of the highest quality meeting non-functional requirements.
• Keep apace with the latest technologies and ensure they are used to maximize user and business benefit.
• Offer informed critique and knowledge sharing to improve solutions, both within Kainos and the broader industry.
• Help qualify and win new opportunities for Kainos.
• Provide technical leadership on delivery and on projects which may require hands-on involvement and difficult but necessary decisions.
• Act as a role model, fostering a DevOps culture and embodying Kainos values; support colleagues to ensure project success.
• Manage, coach and develop a small team, focusing on performance and career development; provide direction and leadership for colleagues to solve challenging problems together.
• Adapt to customer engagements and learn new skills as needs arise, supported by Learning & Development and Architecture teams.

Minimum (essential) Requirements

• Strong verbal and written communication skills, able to clearly convey technical design to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Proven experience of team leadership and supporting a DevOps culture in delivering complex projects.
• Demonstrated ability in managing, coaching and developing junior team members and broader community.
• Ownership of building and operating modern digital service platforms (architecture, estimation, planning, non-functional requirements, Continuous Improvement) using modern agile techniques.
• Implementing robust security controls and monitoring across infrastructure and applications.
• Ability to make effective decisions in fast-moving delivery environments.
• Experience designing, building, testing, automating, monitoring and supporting modern digital service platforms in production and using latest Continuous Delivery techniques.
• Proficiency with automation tooling and one or more: PowerShell, Bash, Python, Ruby, Go, Groovy.
• Experience using public cloud platforms (AWS or Azure) and solving business problems with SaaS or PaaS offerings.
• Experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes) and applying configuration management, infrastructure provisioning and automation tooling.

Desirable

• Third level qualification or equivalent in a related discipline.
• Cloud provider certifications (AWS/Azure) and area-specific certifications (e.g., Kubernetes CKAD).
• Experience with Cloud Native tooling and approaches.
• Active participation in internal and external communities of practice.
