The successful applicant will join the Photonic Innovations Lab at UCL’s Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, working under a recently awarded ERC Advanced Grant. The lab boasts a dynamic team with expertise spanning materials science, photonics, energy modeling, and fabrication. As a postdoctoral researcher, you will be responsible for designing, modeling, and fabricating advanced thermal management solutions that suppress conductive and convective losses in radiative cooling devices. Your work will involve scaling up and deploying promising prototypes at field sites worldwide, leveraging UCL’s extensive network of global collaborators. The role is full-time, fixed-term, and offers a hybrid working arrangement in London, with a competitive salary range of £43,374 to £51,860.

Candidate Profile

This Opportunity Is Tailored For Exceptional Postdoctoral Researchers With a Rigorous Academic Foundation And a Drive To Create Real-world Impact. Suitable Candidates Will Have

– A strong background in heat transport phenomena.

– Proven proficiency in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) for both laminar and turbulent flows.

– Hands-on expertise in thermal conductivity characterization techniques (e.g., guarded hot-plate, laser flash, time or frequency domain thermoreflectance [TDTR/FDTR], or similar methods).

– Advanced skills in building and automating heat-flux and temperature measurement setups using LabVIEW, MATLAB, or equivalent software.

– Familiarity with ultra-low-conductivity materials such as aerogels, nanofoams, or vacuum panels is highly desirable.

– An aptitude for interdisciplinary collaboration and a mindset geared toward innovation and sustainability.

Applicants should be motivated individuals who thrive in a collaborative research environment and are eager to drive the project toward its ambitious vision of electricity-free, deep-freeze radiative cooling.
