About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Principal Data Architect to work for our client within the insurance sector. This is initially a 6-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role that will be based in Edinburgh.

Our client is seeking and experienced Principal Data Architect to lead the design and delivery of analytical data architecture across a complex enterprise environment. This pivotal role will partner closely with the Data Office and Enterprise Architecture teams to shape and implement our data strategy, define design standards, and establish robust platform governance.

Responsibilities

  • Own the enterprise-wide analytical data architecture, ensuring alignment with business priorities across pensions, protection, and supporting functions.
  • Define and enforce data architecture principles, standards, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing data solutions.
  • Guide the adoption of modern data tooling and platforms, including Datadog (monitoring), ShiftX (process modelling), and ServiceNow (workflow orchestration).
  • Provide architectural oversight for data platforms, ensuring integration with enterprise systems and alignment with strategic goals.
  • Act as a thought leader in data architecture, mentoring teams and influencing stakeholders at all levels.
