Senior Mechanical Engineer – Energy Transition Team

A little more about your role

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer in the Energy Transition Team you will lead the mechanical design of transmission projects, including natural gas pipelines at below and above 7 bar, hydrogen, carbon dioxide, LNG terminals and biogas. You will contribute to a diverse portfolio of projects – from conventional power plants to energy‑from‑waste facilities and carbon capture schemes.

Typical week

  • Develop cost‑effective, innovative, practical mechanical designs.
  • Work across all project stages – feasibility, concept design, FEED, value engineering and detailed design.
  • Deliver pipeline deliverables, wall‑thickness calculations and piping specifications.
  • Undertake pipeline routing and population studies.
  • Collaborate closely with other engineering disciplines.
  • Support the development of 3D layouts and models.
  • Contribute to multi‑disciplinary proposals and bids for the piping and layout discipline.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A Degree in a relevant Engineering subject.
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards IEng/Ceng and member of a relevant Engineering Institute.
  • Work experience within the gas industry.
  • Lead role experience in pipeline and AGI engineering deliverables.
  • Knowledge of national and international codes and standards for plant equipment and piping.
  • Experience in pipeline and AGI design.
  • Experience working in a multi‑discipline team on plant 3D models.
  • Proven understanding of the design process and ability to demonstrate working knowledge of scope documents and design concepts.
  • Experience in operational and integrity issue troubleshooting and problem solving.
  • Familiar with the Autodesk suite – AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Navisworks and BIM 360.
  • Proficient in MS Office – technical reports, specifications, schedules and calculations.
  • Experience working with clients and contractors to achieve technical solutions.
