This is an excellent opportunity for a Lead Design Engineer in our Energy Sector. The role involves working on projects across various phases, including concept study, FEED, or EPCm, within a multi-discipline team to deliver engineering on time and within budget. Projects range from brownfield Oil and Gas assets to hydrogen production and storage, with opportunities in Nuclear, Defence, and Transport sectors. The role offers a hybrid working model with 2/3 days at the Manchester office and flexible options.
Senior Engineers will also be considered, with responsibilities and experience requirements adjusted accordingly based on a gap analysis and development plan.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical input for C&I discipline in projects and proposals, including documentation review and approval.
- Organize discipline staff, assign work, and ensure delivery against plans.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers and graduates.
- Produce high-quality C&I engineering deliverables within schedule, budget, and client satisfaction.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, legislation, and standards.
- Prepare equipment and materials requisitions for control and safety systems, analyzers, and instrumentation.
- Develop installation scopes of work.
- Review supplier quotations and conduct technical bid assessments.
Additional tasks may include:
- Full lifecycle development of control or protection systems.
- Software qualification for SMART devices and PLCs.
- Functional Safety and cybersecurity case preparation.
Qualifications
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.
- Extensive knowledge of design practices and installation requirements across industries.
- 15+ years of engineering experience in Oil & Gas, Nuclear, or Water sectors.
- Knowledge of UK legislation and standards.
- Experience with equipment installation in potentially explosive atmospheres.
- Membership or near membership with a relevant professional body.
- Focus on business improvement, efficiency, talent recruitment, and promoting the Costain brand.
