Job Title: Principal Structural Engineer

What You’ll Be Doing
- Analysis and design of complex steel structures utilizing Eurocodes, British Standards and BAE standards to support submarine build
- Apply knowledge of regulations and requirements beyond those used within BAE Systems (e.g., LOLER, codes of compliance, weld specifications, geometric tolerance)
- Interpret and produce competent computer-based analytical outputs including finite element analysis, CAD modelling and engineering schematics (Abaqus, S-Frame)
- Support manufacturing, assembly, lifting, handling and installation processes of submarine structures, modules and components
- Contribute to production of concept drawings, layouts and other technical outputs in line with contractual requirements to meet target dates and budgets
- Approve and check analyses and outputs
Your Skills And Experiences
- Engineering Degree BEng/MEng or equivalent experience
- Civil/Mechanical/Structural background with Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) nearing CEng
- Expertise in structural steel analysis and design
- Fully conversant with Eurocodes and British Standards
- Competent in reviewing and checking design outputs
- Good understanding of mechanical engineering, structural steelwork, lifting/handling and LOLER
- Working knowledge of ABAQUS, S-Frame Foran, MathCAD and Excel
- Experience in a production environment; marine production experience is advantageous

The Specialist Structures Department Team
As a Principal Engineer, you will work with a dual-function design and engineering team of about 14 people at various seniority levels. The team engineers assessments of designs in support of build. You will work with design to produce equipment and support production to deliver safety-critical equipment. Relocation packages are available across Submarines roles, subject to eligibility criteria.
