About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced and ambitious Private Client Tax Senior Manager to join their thriving practice in Oxford. This is an exceptional opportunity for a technically excellent tax professional to take a leading role in managing a diverse portfolio of high-net-worth individuals, family offices, and trusts, whilst developing and mentoring a talented team.
As Senior Manager, you will act as the trusted adviser to our most sophisticated private clients, providing strategic tax planning advice on complex matters including UK and international tax residency, inheritance tax planning, estate administration, trust taxation, and capital gains tax mitigation. You will play a pivotal role in driving the continued growth of our private client practice, building lasting relationships and identifying opportunities to expand our service offering.
Key Responsibilities
Client Management & Technical Delivery
- Manage a portfolio of high-net-worth individuals, trustees, and family offices, acting as the primary point of contact for complex tax matters
- Provide strategic tax planning advice on UK and offshore trust structures, inheritance tax, capital gains tax, and income tax optimisation
- Advise on tax residency matters, domicile issues, and the remittance basis of taxation
- Oversee the preparation and review of personal tax returns, trust and estate tax returns, and associated compliance work
- Manage estate and trust administrations from inception to completion
- Handle technical queries relating to non-domiciled individuals and internationally mobile clients
- Liaise with HMRC on complex enquiries, disputes, and disclosure matters
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of tax managers, seniors, and assistants
- Conduct performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and identify training needs
- Foster a collaborative team environment that encourages technical excellence and professional development
- Review team output to ensure accuracy, quality, and adherence to professional standards
Business Development & Practice Growth
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities within existing client relationships
- Build and maintain relationships with referral sources including solicitors, wealth managers, and financial advisers
- Contribute to pitch presentations and proposals for prospective clients
- Participate in networking events and represent the firm at industry functions
- Stay abreast of legislative changes and communicate implications to clients and colleagues
Practice Management
- Ensure engagements are delivered profitably within budget and time constraints
- Contribute to fee setting and work‑in‑progress management
- Support the implementation of process improvements and technological solutions
- Assist with technical research and contribute to internal knowledge‑sharing initiatives
About You
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- CTA qualified (Chartered Tax Adviser) or equivalent professional qualification
- Minimum 7‑10 years’ experience in private client tax, with at least 3 years at manager level or above
- Comprehensive technical knowledge of UK taxation affecting individuals, trusts, and estates
- Proven track record of managing complex client relationships and portfolios
- Experience in leading and developing teams
- Strong understanding of inheritance tax planning, including the use of trusts and lifetime gifting strategies
- Solid knowledge of capital gains tax, including business asset disposal relief, investors’ relief, and principal private residence relief
- Familiarity with non‑domicile taxation and the taxation of internationally mobile individuals
Desirable Experience
- Experience advising ultra‑high‑net‑worth clients and family offices
- Knowledge of cross‑border tax issues and double tax treaties
- Exposure to advising on tax aspects of succession planning and business sales
- Experience with tax investigation and dispute resolution
- STEP qualification or working towards
