Senior Private Client Tax role based in Hertfordshire with hybrid working (3 days in-office, occasional City office visits). Salary up to £45,000. This role focuses on managing a diverse portfolio of private client tax matters for high-net-worth individuals, partnerships, and clients with varied income sources, providing routine compliance and advisory support.

The Private Client Tax Senior will own a portfolio under the guidance of an Assistant Manager, acting as the first point of contact for clients and handling all aspects of their tax affairs with professionalism and proactivity.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a varied portfolio of private clients, including high-net-worth individuals and partnerships.
  • Handle routine compliance work and provide ad hoc tax advisory services.
  • Liaise with internal teams across audit, accounting, and general practice.
  • Advise on capital gains tax and investment reliefs (EIS, VCT, SEIS).
  • Attend client meetings and build strong relationships.
  • Prepare and review tax computations and self-assessment returns.
  • Monitor WIP, raise client bills, and propose fees.
  • Contribute to one-off advisory and compliance projects.

What I am Looking For / Qualifications

  • ATT qualified (CTA qualification in progress or completed preferred).
  • Proven experience managing a private client tax portfolio.
  • Familiarity with self-assessment, UK residence and domicile rules, and private client advisory.
  • Able to use legislation and HMRC guidance for technical research.
  • Experience working with private clients, owner-managed businesses, and UK-based high-net-worth individuals.
  • Familiarity with non-UK domiciled and resident clients preferred.
  • Comfortable advising property-owning clients and those with investment portfolios.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Commercial awareness around chargeable hours, fees, and WIP recovery.
  • Enthusiastic approach to business development and client engagement.
  • Collaborative mindset and team player attitude.
  • Confident, professional, and personable in client interactions.
