Overview
This is an opportunity for an experienced Project Manager to join our Major Projects team in the Thames Valley. You’ll make a positive impact on the environment, helping to modernise and strengthen our networks. You will be involved in early-stage governance, pricing and approvals and then managing projects through our Tier 1 Contractors. You will drive the agenda, deliver against timescales and ensure regulatory compliance in this fast-paced environment. Through our partnership with the APM, we can offer support to become a Chartered PM and advance your career.
Hybrid – Reading Clearwater Court, 2 days a week, and Thames Water sites along the M4 Corridor. A driver’s licence and access to a car for this role are required.
Responsibilities
- Establish and continuously promote a proactive health, safety, and environment culture across complex and high-risk project portfolios and our service providers.
- Accountability for project delivery and meeting time, cost and quality outputs.
- Develop and deliver an optimised project to achieve all regulatory, statutory, and internal outputs, deadlines, and targets.
- Accountability throughout the project lifecycle, governance compliance, and internal/external stakeholder engagement leading to the smooth transition of project outcomes into the operational business.
- Actively protecting, managing, and enhancing Thames Water’s reputation with external customers and stakeholders.
- Development of project briefs, including supplementary information for the project's subsequent early contractor involvement phase.
- Managing and ensuring the performance of contractors to deliver project outcomes.
What you should bring to the role
To thrive in this role, the essential criteria you’ll need are:
- Be educated to HNC / degree level
- Experience in a relevant operational or project management capacity.
- Background in contractual awareness of Project Management work.
- Proven track record of managing the performance of third-party organisations.
- Set up and regularly implement feedback systems to improve business performance.
- Be able to deliver tough messages with empathy.
Additional skills and experiences
- Ideally, experience in the water sector or a similar regulated industry

- Competitive salary from £56,000 to £67,000 per annum, depending on experience
