Role summary
We are looking for a strong, commercially minded technical expert to lead our mid-market commercial property account, supporting growth and delivering excellent customer outcomes. You will be responsible for delivering the financial plan outcomes through underwriting, pricing, underwriting quality and portfolio management leadership, underpinned by a risk‑aware culture.
Responsibilities
- Lead the Mid‑Market Commercial Property Account as part of the Mid‑Market Portfolio and Underwriting Team.
- Develop the underwriting approach to deliver enhanced performance and improved customer outcomes, driving portfolio mix and identifying profitable growth opportunities.
- Manage performance through robust performance management, market pricing, rating and strong underwriting principles; inform commercial decisions on Profit and Loss based on deep business insight.
- Collaborate with Pricing, Chief Underwriting Office, Actuarial, Finance, Claims, Automation and Data Science teams supporting Mid‑Market; actively engage with regional underwriting teams.
- Deliver for customers and brokers as part of a small team of technical and portfolio management experts focused on optimising the portfolio and implementing underwriting strategy within Regional Mid‑Market.
- Provide strategic portfolio and underwriting direction and support the development of underwriting capability.
Skills and experience
- Good experience of portfolio management and enabling business growth through technical underwriting with a commercial focus.
- Strong property underwriting experience with the ability to deliver solutions to complex issues and implement underwriting strategies in an operationally effective manner, including a strong understanding of Mid‑Market and the issues and challenges facing our customers.
- Able to think strategically and assess the impact of changing risks over the medium term.
- A strong and effective communicator and coach with leadership experience and ability to manage senior stakeholders both internally and externally.
- Adaptable and versatile with an ability to convey and convert complex data and strategies simply into the underwriting teams.
