R&D Tax Consultant

Location: hybrid options available but applicants must be able to access a UK major city 2-3 days per week
Salary: Dependant on skills, experience and education
Our client is a global professional services company that supports businesses with financial planning and consultancy. Working within their R&D Tax division, the role of an R&D Consultant is to support clients with R&D Tax relief claims for the UK government. You’ll work closely with senior management across technical, scientific and engineering functions and financial professionals within a broad spectrum of mainly STEM industries who are engaged in research, development and technology advancement. As an R&D Tax Consultant, it's your role to engage with these organisations to identify areas of innovation that can benefit from R&D Tax relief and work with management to put together detailed briefs to claim vital relief.
This role is not your typical Science or Engineer career, yet it would be a great opportunity for a STEM graduate who enjoys the business of science and technology more than the practical applications. You’ll be a first-class communicator with strong listening skills and will be able to build relationships with stakeholders and extract and analyse key information about highly technical projects. You’ll have excellent desk research attributes along with strong written and documentation skills and be able to write detailed and concise technical reports. Numeracy skills are equally important as you’ll be required to interrogate complex data sets to extract the financials which represent the cornerstone of any claim. Attention to detail and the ability to robustly test data & facts is critical as any errors can have significant implications.
Applications for the role will have (current or recent):
- Degree in a STEM discipline (MSc or PhD would be advantageous)
- Proven experience working in a business-oriented position
- A track record working in a B2B customer communication role
- Previous experience in R&D tax (either through in-house applications or consultancy) would be beneficial but is not essential
- Professional project management skills
- Experience of writing complex reports
- Strong interpersonal skills, able to build rapport across multiple hierarchy levels
- Good data analytical skills (Excel essential, Power Bi useful)
- Good team player, able to work within a multi-disciplinary team and able to lead when required
Applicants must be able to demonstrate their suitability for the role and match the role criteria through tangible experiences detailed on their CV. Whilst a cover letter is not required for this position, applicants must include a personal statement which states why they want to work in R&D Tax and their (transferable) skills and experiences that match the key requirements of the position.
We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all qualified candidates. We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace and encourage applicants from all backgrounds to apply.
