About The Role

We are looking for a Senior Associate to join our Tax Innovation & Capital Incentives (ICI) team based within our Listed and Inbound (L&I) tax team. The team focuses on growth and serves a wide range of clients across industries including engineering, pharmaceuticals, food & drink, manufacturing, financial services and IT & software development. This role suits someone with a background in computer science/software engineering who enjoys learning cutting-edge technologies and applying software and technology knowledge in a client-facing role. The team is part of a large national network of ICI specialists with some location flexibility. The role is client-facing from day one, with an expectation to quickly establish and maintain effective working relationships and independently lead client communications. Previous experience in R&D Tax credits is not essential.

What Your Day Will Look Like

  • Taking a lead role in managing the client relationship which can include managing deadlines, running parts of meetings, handling day to day queries and establishing your role as a trusted contact.
  • Participation in interviews with client technical teams to support them in understanding the R&D tax legislation and identify qualifying R&D projects.
  • Preparation of technical reports which highlight the R&D activities undertaken by our clients across numerous industries (Technology, Defence, Pharma etc.).
  • Collaborate closely with internal financial teams to accurately quantify eligible R&D expenditures by understanding clients' development activities and how these align with the definition of R&D.
  • Actively explore ways to add value for our clients by leveraging expertise within the broader tax team and across other service lines within the Firm.
  • Support and development of junior staff, sharing knowledge through coaching and encouraging development through exposure to practical application of the legislation.
  • Engage in business development and look for opportunities to win work for existing clients and new targets.
  • Manage multiple stakeholders including colleagues across the national ICI network.
  • Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge on industry developments and tax regulations.

This Role Is For You If

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Sciences, Technology, or related fields or industry experience in software engineering or IT.
  • Strong ability to identify and articulate the research activities undertaken by our clients.
  • Strong written and verbal skills to lead client interactions and liaise with PwC teams in translating complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work autonomously and take responsibility for your own development.
  • Passion for client service and enthusiasm to engage with clients at all levels of seniority.
  • Strong organisational skills to manage multiple clients and stakeholders.
  • Excel/analytical skills to understand numerical aspects of claims and compile them.
  • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically to develop solutions.
