About The Role

As a Regional Quality Lead at National Grid, you will support the Onshore Quality Manager and the Regional Portfolio Directors to ensure the highest standard of quality across our Onshore Strategic Infrastructure Projects. You will implement Onshore’s Quality Management Systems to ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, ISO 9001, and National Grid’s standards. You will assist in reporting and auditing our internal projects, our Partner’s Work Packages and contractors to ensure they are in compliance with contractual requirements, industry standards, regulatory requirements and National Grid’s policies and procedures. This role requires a proactive Quality expert who can keep quality at the forefront of our projects in a programme landscape with challenging schedules, deliverables and interdependencies. This role is on a hybrid basis, with travel to East of England when required.

Educational Background

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality Management, Project Management or a related field.
  • Professional certifications in Quality Management (e.g., ISO 9001 Lead Auditor, Six Sigma)

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in quality management within construction projects from development to delivery; experience in Transmission and Distribution or the Energy industry is a plus.
  • Proven track record of implementing Quality Management Systems (QMS) in compliance with ISO 9001 and other regulatory standards.
  • Experience in conducting audits and assessments to ensure compliance with industry standards and contractual requirements.

Technical Knowledge

  • In-depth understanding of Quality Management principles and methodologies.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry standards relevant to onshore strategic infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement processes, including root cause, cost of poor quality analysis and corrective action implementation.
  • Understanding of CDM Regulations and NEC Contractual Requirements, specifically in relation to Client, Principal Designer & Principal Contractor roles.
  • Understanding of different contractual relationships within an enterprise way of working is a plus.

Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify quality issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills for reporting quality performance and trends to stakeholders.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including project managers, contractors, and suppliers.

Proficiency In Tools And Software

  • Experience with quality management software and tools for data analysis and reporting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) for documentation and presentations.

Leadership And Management

  • Demonstrated ability to lead quality initiatives and drive a culture of quality within teams.
  • Experience in training and mentoring staff on quality standards and practices.
  • Ability to lead a team of up to 5 Project Quality Advisors who will be working in a specified region to ensure alignment and collaboration.

What you'll do

  • Implement Quality Systems: Implement Onshore’s Quality Management Systems and procedures in alignment with industry standards, regulatory requirements, ISO 9001 and National Grid’s standards.
  • Quality Planning, Assurance and Control: Oversee the quality planning, assurance and control processes of a selection of projects within the Onshore Programme, ensuring all deliverables meet regulatory or National Grid requirements.
  • Audit and Compliance: Conduct and assist with regular internal audits to ensure compliance with NG’s BMS and quality and regulatory requirements.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for enhancements, conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Reporting: Prepare and present regular reports on quality performance and trends to the Regional Portfolio Director; develop dashboards for executive leadership with the Onshore Quality Manager.
  • Supplier Quality Management: Work with the Supply Chain Assurance Manager and Technical Governance Manager to consolidate feedback from audits on suppliers and Partners to demonstrate project quality.
  • Contractual Requirements: Ensure contractors meet contractual quality requirements including ISO 9001 accreditation and planning; assist with close out and management of defects and deviations.
  • Collaboration: Work with the SI Quality Lead and NGET Quality team to ensure a joined-up approach across the business for quality.
