We are seeking an accomplished and forward-thinking Remote Energy & Engineering Innovation Manager to lead the transformation of building energy performance across a national portfolio. This leadership role is critical to driving operational excellence, optimising asset and system efficiency, and delivering cutting-edge solutions in energy optimisation, flexibility, demand side response (DSR), and smart grid participation.
This individual will be accountable for developing and delivering high-impact programmes that reduce energy consumption, enhance building intelligence, unlock revenue from grid services, and accelerate our clients' journey to Net Zero. The role blends technical mastery with strategic innovation, digital leadership, and client-focused delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Asset & Building Performance
- Lead the strategic optimisation of complex building systems through advanced analytics, remote engineering, and controls innovation.
- Oversee the deployment and refinement of digital twins, remote monitoring platforms, and BMS strategy enhancement.
- Champion predictive maintenance and condition-based strategies to improve resilience, reliability, and energy intensity metrics.
- Ensure integration of building and asset performance into wider FM, ESG, and digital estates strategies.
- Direct the creation and execution of energy optimisation programmes with measurable performance KPIs and ROI tracking.
- Build and develop your team as the business expands
- Embed Net Zero thinking into all projects, using PAS 2038, TM54 and TM39 best practices.
- Shape energy masterplans and investment-grade proposals for large estates, decarbonisation roadmaps, and climate adaptation planning.
Demand Side Response & Flexibility Leadership
- Lead the design and enablement of flexibility and DSR programmes across the client base, coordinating with aggregators, DSOs, and energy markets.
- Build technical and operational capability within estates to deliver automated grid-responsive control and behind-the-meter optimisation (e.g. battery dispatch, HVAC cycling).
- Unlock commercial value streams including capacity market participation, frequency response, and virtual power plant (VPP) opportunities.
- Drive innovation across the energy and engineering portfolio, leveraging AI/ML, digital twins, advanced metering, and IoT.
- Collaborate with technology vendors, R&D partners, and industry bodies to explore emerging solutions and trial next-gen building optimisation tools.
- Create business cases for new services and digital offerings aligned to smart building standards (e.g. ISO 52120, BS ISO 50001).
Client Engagement & Business Growth
- Act as a senior technical advisor to clients, supporting strategic reviews, energy transformation roadmaps, and investment prioritisation.
- Work closely with commercial teams to co-develop energy service propositions, support tenders, and win new business.
- Represent the business in industry forums, client boardrooms, and sustainability leadership engagements.
Skills & Experience Required
- Degree-qualified in Building Services, Mechanical, Electrical, Energy Engineering, or related field.
- 10+ years' experience in building performance optimisation, energy engineering, and technical FM.
- Proven track record of leading DSR/flexibility implementation, energy transformation programmes, and remote optimisation.
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to shape client propositions and energy performance contracts (EPCs).
- Expert knowledge of BMS/controls, smart metering, analytics platforms, and digital building tools.
- Demonstrable experience with Net Zero strategy, ESG reporting, and building compliance (e.g. TM44, TM63, ISO 50001)
- Chartered Engineer (CEng), Energy Institute membership, or similar.
- Experience delivering innovation or technology pilots at scale.
- Knowledge of grid flexibility services, market access platforms, and aggregator coordination.
- Familiarity with PAS 2038, BS EN ISO 52120, TM61–65, and digital twin principles.
