Job summary: This role is divided into review and treatment. Two days are allocated for review and three days to treatment. It is a rotational post; the post holder will be required to travel to both Brighton and Eastbourne. Working hours are from 8 AM to 7 PM, with on-call duties and shifts. The timings may be adjusted based on service requirements. This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route, subject to meeting UKVI requirements (skill, salary thresholds and any role-specific criteria).

About the role

The post holder provides professional radiotherapy services within all the Sussex Cancer Centre locations covering CT, on-call, calculating and treatment of cancer patients and liaising with the multidisciplinary team. Our sites are equipped with Elekta Versa HD Linacs, Tomotherapy units, and Philips Widebore CT scanners. We also offer advanced HDR brachytherapy services. The role includes a £2,000 Recruitment & Retention Premium.

Job responsibilities

  • Use electronic imager to confirm patient positioning at start of radiotherapy course and during treatment as part of QA protocol.
  • Calculate accuracy of patient position and use clinical judgement to adjust positioning, considering tumour contour, progression and regression.
  • In case of discrepancies and inability to treat, refer for changes in calculation or re-planning with CT/planning.
  • Ensure prior to each treatment an expert assessment determines if the patient is fit for treatment; take action if unfit by referral to a clinician.
  • Make judgments about the need for specialty support from other disciplines and refer accordingly (e.g., to dietetics and Macmillan teams).
  • Arrange for blood/urine sampling and analyse results before treatment; decide on continuing or suspending treatment and inform the patient if treatment is suspended.

Person Specification

Essential

  • DCR[T] or BSc (Hons) in Therapeutic Radiography
  • HCPC registered
  • Minimum 18 months clinical experience
  • Ability to operate large, complex Linear Accelerators with high precision
  • Ability to cope with a workload involving distressed cancer patients, relatives, and those with co-morbidity

Desirable

  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Relevant short specialist courses in Radiotherapy
