Role Overview

Venn are seeking a skilled and motivated RF & Antenna Engineer to join our clients multidisciplinary engineering team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in the design, simulation, testing, and optimisation of antennas and RF systems for defence, aerospace, and counter-aerial applications. You’ll work closely with software, hardware, and system engineers to deliver reliable, high-performance RF solutions in demanding environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and optimise directional and omnidirectional antennas across VHF, UHF, L-band, S-band, and C-band

• Perform RF simulations and electromagnetic modelling using CST, HFSS, or FEKO

• Carry out impedance matching, antenna tuning, and characterisation using Vector Network Analyzers (VNAs) and anechoic chambers

• Model RF propagation and system performance in complex environments (urban, maritime, wind farm clutter, etc.)

• Contribute to system-level integration of antennas with RF front ends and embedded platforms

• Perform RF chain testing including filters, amplifiers, mixers, couplers, and attenuators

• Collaborate with software teams to support geolocation techniques (e.g., AoA, TDoA, MLAT)

• Assist in the development of RF-based countermeasure techniques (e.g., GPS spoofing, jamming)

• Document designs, test plans, results, and participate in technical reviews

• Ensure all development adheres to relevant regulations (Ofcom, CE/FCC, DEF STAN, MIL-STD)

• Degree in Electronics, RF Engineering, Physics, Telecommunications, or related discipline

• Experience in RF and antenna design, testing, and characterisation

• Proficiency with EM simulation tools (e.g., CST Studio Suite, HFSS, FEKO, Altair)

• Strong understanding of RF principles: radiation patterns, gain, polarisation, return loss, S-parameters

• Hands-on experience with test equipment: VNAs, spectrum analysers, signal generators, SDRs

• Familiarity with RF system integration and real-world deployment challenges.

• Experience RF integration and signature analysis

• Knowledge of EW techniques

• Practical experience with software-defined radios (SDRs) and platforms like GNURadio

• Exposure to digital signal processing (DSP) for RF analysis (Python, MATLAB, C++)

• Familiarity with UK export control legislation and secure defence environments
