A Gloucestershire-based Local Authority is seeking an experienced Road Safety Manager to lead their Road Safety and Active Travel team. This is a key leadership role where you’ll be responsible for overseeing road safety engineering, active travel initiatives, and working closely with internal and external stakeholders to deliver on the council’s statutory and strategic obligations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the Road Safety team including engineering, behavioural change (ThinkTravel), and data functions.
- Lead on road safety engineering matters and act as the council’s technical expert.
- Ensure delivery of GCC’s statutory duties relating to road safety and audit procedures.
- Oversee the implementation of Road Safety Policy and review its effectiveness.
- Liaise with key partners including Gloucestershire Police, NHS, and Fire Service through the Road Safety Partnership.
- Provide expert advice on DfT design standards, active travel improvements and casualty reduction.
- Take ownership of policy, budgeting, and performance delivery.
- Degree qualified or equivalent in a relevant field.
- Completion of RoSPA-approved Road Safety Audit Training.
- Recent CPD (within last 2 years).
- Membership of ICE, MCIHT, or IHE.
- Member of SoRSA (Society of Road Safety Auditors).
- Significant experience in road safety engineering and policy development.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
