The role

As a Safety Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Drive vital engineering projects at Devonport Dockyard—maintaining nuclear facilities and shaping new infrastructure to support the Royal Navy’s submarine fleet and national defence.

Day to day, you’ll be responsible for providing Babcock’s operations with specialist knowledge and support relating to safety.

  • Lead safety projects aligned with strategic objectives and regulatory frameworks
  • Support the development, delivery, and modification of nuclear safety cases
  • Design and implement robust nuclear safety processes, procedures, and standards
  • Offer expert technical guidance on nuclear safety assessments and policy compliance

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements.

Essential Experience Of The Safety Engineer

  • Proven technical safety background within highly regulated industries such as nuclear, oil and gas, rail, or aviation
  • Solid understanding of safety policies, frameworks, and assessment methodologies
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership capabilities, with a collaborative mindset
  • Demonstrated strength in stakeholder engagement and relationship management

Qualifications For The Safety Engineer

  • Educated to Degree level in an Engineering or Scientific discipline and have relevant experience.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) / Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
