Senior Associate – Human Development Practice
Join Chemonics UK as a Senior Practice Associate to support the Human Development technical practice. This role provides advanced support with practice administration and coordination across key functions of programme portfolio management, growth, and thought leadership.
About the Role
The Senior Practice Associate will undertake tasks across communications and events planning; coordinate country growth strategies and participate in capture and proposal efforts; financial management; consultant management; and reporting; and will work closely with Programme Management Units on a day‑to‑day basis.
Key Responsibilities
- Track practice event, bid and other relevant budgets, including approvals for staffing, financial reporting and tracking; liaise with corporate office and project staff and partners staff to obtain information and submit approvals.
- Provide approval of local expenses and supporting documentation; participate in corporate budgeting process as requested.
HR and Recruitment
- Lead recruitment efforts for programme employees/consultants under Programme Manager supervision.
- Review draft employment/hiring agreements and provide inputs on compensation negotiations.
- Approve travel arrangements and expense reports; manage consultant time and invoices when appropriate.
- Support programme staff new to Chemonics with introductions to systems, policies, and processes.
Consultant and Procurement Management
- Manage practice procurements for technical services, technical consultants, communications events and services.
- Draft contracts, liaise on contractual issues, coordinate with UK Contracts team.
- Provide review and approval of expenses and invoice packages; coordinate budget updates with consultants and service delivery providers.
Practice Administration
- Manage Practice monthly and other meetings; produce slide decks for meeting presentations.
- Coordinate Practice‑wide attendance at external events; share industry information with the Practice.
- Produce communications materials such as blog posts, social media content; liaise with Communications Team.
- Coordinate technical Communities of Practice; respond to requests for practice information.
Person Specification
- Experience in relevant administrative or professional work environment; basic understanding of contractual, procurement, financial management.
- Relevant academic or training background in practice technical area (international affairs, humanitarian, education, GEDSI, governance).
- Understanding of donor client requirements and methods of business.
- Experience with data entry, filing, cataloguing, retrieving, and preserving records.
- Clear and concise communication; cross‑culture communication and sensitivity skills; experience producing communications materials and managing events.
- Multitasking with attention to detail, organization, and time management skills in a fast‑paced environment.
