Senior Back-end Engineer - PHP, Payments Team (Remote in EMEA)

An opportunity to contribute to a high-performance Payments system supporting global e-commerce operations. You will work on scaling, optimizing, and modularizing payment services, integrating new payment methods, and improving reliability across multiple platforms. The role involves designing robust backend workflows, applying Domain-Driven Design and Event Sourcing best practices, and collaborating closely with product managers, engineers, and cross‑functional teams to deliver a seamless payment experience for merchants and customers. Innovation, quality and mentorship are highly valued.

Accountabilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain backend systems for payments, ensuring scalability and robustness
  • Extract and transform existing payment modules into independent services using Domain‑Driven Design (DDD) and Event Sourcing
  • Implement workflows and orchestration logic for high‑load, distributed payment systems using Temporal.io
  • Integrate new payment options and support multicurrency and subscription management features
  • Collaborate with product teams to define features, resolve bugs, and improve code quality
  • Conduct code reviews, mentor team members, and contribute to knowledge‑sharing sessions
  • Maintain high standards in testing, CI/CD, and software development best practices

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience with PHP development
  • Strong knowledge of Domain‑Driven Design (DDD) and CQRS principles
  • Experience building and maintaining distributed systems
  • Quality‑focused mindset: testing (TDD preferred), SOLID principles, pair programming, and Agile methodologies
  • Ability to mentor team members and provide constructive code feedback
  • Proficient in English (spoken and written)
  • Preferred qualifications: Experience with Event Sourcing; Experience refactoring monolithic applications into microservices
