Overview We are currently seeking a Senior or Principal Control and Instrumentation (C&I) Engineer to join the Decommissioning market within our Nuclear EMEA business. Ideally based in Manchester, although other locations in the UK can be considered. Reporting to the C&I Capability Lead, you will be responsible for leading the delivery of design and substantiation packages for process control and mechanical handling systems, including safety instrumented systems, for nuclear decommissioning and waste management projects. The successful candidate will have a strong control and instrumentation background and will support the development and growth of the C&I capability in our market, including bidding through preparation of project activity schedules and case studies, applying governance processes to manage technical risk, preparing project design documentation, leading within the Nuclear EMEA technical community, and developing early career colleagues. Responsibilities
Join an established C&I capability and establish a new team in Manchester to complement core engineering disciplines. Act as technical lead on projects, managing single‑discipline teams with little oversight to deliver solutions to complex problems on time, within budget and quality requirements. Apply a demonstrable understanding of control and instrumentation engineering design across the full project lifecycle, including control system architecture and instrumentation specification and selection. Apply knowledge of Process Control Design including PID, MPC, and APC, and functional safety standards such as BS EN 61508 or BS EN 61511. Program PLCs and work with fieldbus protocols; design low‑voltage (LV) electrical systems, circuits, EMC precautions, and power supply characteristics. Collaborate with colleagues in the Decommissioning market and across the wider AtkinsRéalis business to shape and influence methodologies and delivery.
