Job Title: Senior Client Accounting Manager (Accountant)

Location: Waterlooville, Hampshire (Hybrid: Office-based with 1 day WFH)

Salary: £45,000 – £50,000 per year

Job Type: Permanent, Full-time

Hours: 37.5 per week

Job Purpose

Seeking an experienced Senior Client Manager to lead and mentor a small team within a dynamic accountancy practice. The successful candidate will provide best-in-class service to a growing client portfolio, overseeing the preparation and review of accounts and tax returns, and delivering sound advisory support to small business clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage, prepare, and submit accounts and tax returns for Sole Traders, Partnerships, and Limited Companies.
  • Supervise a small team, ensuring workloads and statutory deadlines are managed.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to team members.
  • Review accounting and taxation work and offer feedback/training.
  • Support planning and monitoring of team performance and KPIs.
  • Communicate with clients via phone, email, social media, and in-person.
  • Onboard new clients and support their transition through bookkeeping and compliance.
  • Advise clients on tax efficiency, cashflow, budgets, and pricing.
  • Complete/review bookkeeping, VAT returns, and CIS as required.
  • Prepare for and lead year-end client meetings and fee reviews.
  • Maintain organized electronic records and client administration.
  • Liaise with HMRC and resolve client queries.
  • Deliver training to clients and ensure professionalism and company values in all work.

Requirements

  • Full membership of a chartered professional body (e.g., ACCA or equivalent).
  • At least 5 years’ experience in practice, covering a wide client base.
  • Proven ability to prepare, review, and check accounts and tax returns.
  • Advisory experience and proficiency with Xero, QuickBooks, DEXT, and FreeAgent.
  • Advanced knowledge of UK tax and accounting standards.
  • Strong use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Excellent time management; able to prioritize work and manage shifting demands.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
