Senior Design Manager – Belfast (Hybrid)

Position: Senior Design Manager
Location: Belfast, hybrid working available
Salary: £75-90k (Negotiable), car/allowance, bonus and excellent benefits package

Role Overview

Reports directly to the Regional Engineering Lead and will lead projects through design phases for a portfolio of projects. Deliver cost‑effective, technically compliant and buildable solutions in line with stakeholder requirements, programme expectations and project delivery processes.

Responsibilities

  • Drive excellence in Health & Safety, complying fully with local specifications, codes, rules and legislation.
  • Identify, manage and communicate H&S hazards and residual risks.
  • Lead the design team to meet customer requirements and project objectives.
  • Accountable for expenditure, driving efficiency and managing overall outturn costs.
  • Organise all elements of design, document in the Design Management Plan and prepare monthly status update reports.
  • Attend and contribute to programme, project and technical meetings.
  • Produce technical solutions that outperform on cost while maintaining quality standards and on‑time delivery.
  • Provide technical support during construction, assembly and commissioning stages.
  • Ensure technical work meets correct standards and specifications, following the appropriate systems of work and quality assurance.
  • Contribute to sustainability targets by reducing embodied and operational carbon footprints.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with partner organisations and disciplines.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Extensive experience of multi‑disciplinary design management in a design and build environment.
  • Degree in an engineering‑related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer in an engineering‑related discipline.
  • APM Project Fundamentals Qualification.
  • Delivery‑driven with the ability to set targets and manage and motivate multi‑disciplinary teams.
  • Working knowledge of CDM regulations and construction Health & Safety.
  • Extensive experience in large‑scale project delivery.
  • Strategic, operational, technical and management skills.
  • Good general knowledge of water treatment aspects (process, civil and MEICA).
  • Ability to present technical proposals clearly, confidently and convincingly.

Desirable

  • Working towards or have obtained APM Project Management Qualification.
  • Experience working for a global organisation.
  • Experience working with remote/dispersed teams.
  • Experience in the Water/Wastewater Treatment Industry.
  • Ability to embrace collaborative and innovative working.
  • Knowledge of BIM procedures and techniques.
