Senior Design Manager – Leading Tier 1 main contractor – Major project - Surrey

This leading Tier 1 contractor has a potentially long-term freelance opportunity for a minimum contract of 9 months for a Senior Design Manager, on a major new build project in Surrey.

For this Senior Design Manager role, you will be involved from the start of the project, based initially in the regional office of this Tier 1 contractor. When the project commences on site, you will move to being 4 days with the site team and 1 day working remotely or from the office. The project is a new build student accommodation project of circa £80m value which is associated with another new education building which is well underway.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the Design Management for the student accommodation project, with the assistance of a Design Manager and a Document Controller.
• Report to the Project Director and participate in regular progress meetings with the Regional Design Manager.
• Support the current project team with all design tasks, with initial focus on CDP and identifying key tasks to be carried out.
• Operate in a live site environment, quickly integrate with the team and provide design support as required.
• Collaborate with production teams and challenge decisions where appropriate, while maintaining effective communication with stakeholders.

Qualifications & Experience

• UK construction qualification is essential.
• At least 10 years in contracting Design Management, and a minimum of 5 years in the role of Senior Design Manager.
• Experience with leading Tier 1 contractors and familiarity with their processes and procedures.
• Ability to work on busy projects with strong organizational skills and effective communication across diverse teams.
• Live within a commutable distance to the Surrey project location.

The Senior Design Manager will oversee design management on a major student accommodation project valued at around £80m, with involvement from the regional office to on-site deployment as the project progresses.
