Overview

Join to apply for the Senior Ecologist role at Binnies.

About The Role

Binnies is seeking Senior Ecologists to join our growing team of ecologists and environmental professionals based in Redhill, contributing to the continued success of our national Ecology Team. You will work on a wide portfolio of projects, from nationally significant infrastructure projects to smaller scale river restoration. Our portfolio includes flood, coastal and maritime projects, water utilities, transport and renewable power. One of our newest projects is SESRO (South East Strategic Reservoir Option), a 150 million cubic metre reservoir near Abingdon, with opportunities to create new habitats and increase biodiversity. There is potential for a key role on this project if that is of interest. Binnies is a registered Ecological (CIEEM) and Landscape Practice (Landscape Institute) and holds the IEMA (now ISEP) EIA Quality Mark, and we sponsor the Association of Environmental Clerk of Works. We support an active ecological community of practice and help you progress toward chartership, while providing technical, leadership and H&S training and paid membership of two professional institutions.

Responsibilities

  • Leading and managing field surveys.
  • Line managing and mentoring more junior ecologists.
  • Writing and reviewing ecological deliverables including BNG assessment reports, preliminary ecological reports, EcIA, planning documents, HRA and other consents.
  • Supporting design of habitat restoration/creation and mitigation schemes and preparing management and monitoring plans.
  • Undertaking BNG calculations.
  • Managing, checking and presenting ecological data.
  • Ecological Clerk of Works.

For discussion about the role before applying, please contact our Environmental Services leader Emma Stevens at stevense@binnies.com or via LinkedIn.

  • Experience of a range of habitat and/or species surveys
  • Experience of writing ecological reports to a high standard
  • Hold or be working towards a protected species licence and/or FISC levels
  • Hold a full UK driving licence

The nature of ecology survey work may require some working away from home to deliver specific contracts, though we aim to keep this to a minimum.
