Senior / Principal Electrical Design Engineers (Building Services)

RPS is currently seeking Senior or Principal level Electrical Design Engineers (Building Services) to join our offices in Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, or Newcastle on a hybrid basis.

About The Design Business: RPS Design Division delivers projects across multiple sectors including residential, logistics, retail, aviation, healthcare, education, manufacturing, data centres, and energy. We focus on balancing form and function, sustainability, materiality, cost, and constructability. Digitalisation is central to our delivery, enabling clients to experience designs from concept through detailed drawings, supported by decades of expertise across industries and disciplines.

What you’ll be doing:

• Produce detailed design calculations and sketches according to project requirements
• Maintain good technical engineering design knowledge
• Liaise with Senior Engineers and Technicians on design and drawings
• Assist in survey, design, specification, and contract administration, typically working with an Electrical Associate
• Engage in survey, design, office-based administration, and site visits
• Perform detailed Electrical Building Services Design on new and refurbishment projects
• Support feasibility, concept, and scheme design stages
• Attend design team meetings
• Inspect and report on electrical systems
• Use Building Services software for calculations
• Ensure designs meet legislative and safety standards
• Produce or direct CAD drawings
• Select and specify products and installation standards
• Contribute to business development activities as a Principal Engineer

Who we’re looking for:

You should have a degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, with experience aligned to IET or CIBSE requirements. Skills include:

• Designing electrical systems from concept to detailed design (BSRIA BG6 Stage 4A)
• Low voltage distribution, lighting, small power, fire alarms, ICT cabling, cable containment
• Proficiency in Amtech, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office
• Understanding of Building Regulations Part L
• Strong communication skills
