Senior Electrical Engineer – Environment Agency
We are looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer to join the Standards and Engineering team as a Senior Electrical Engineer. The role requires expertise in high, medium, low and extra‑low voltage systems, control systems design and SCADA/telemetry.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical engineering leadership and support to the organisation, ensuring safe, reliable and sustainable assets.
- Develop, deliver and maintain electrical engineering standards, including safety rules for HV and LV power systems and control systems.
- Shape how we deliver services into the future and meet commitments to net zero carbon.
- Develop competency guidance for all employees working on electrical systems and equipment.
- Hold a national incident response role as required, which may be within normal working hours or out of hours.
Qualifications
- Good working knowledge of Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 and IET wiring regulations.
- Strong understanding of control systems, IEC 61508, IEC 62061, BS EN 13489 and telemetry / SCADA systems.
- Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
- Experience in developing and delivering safe systems of work, risk assessments and method statements.
- Proficiency in testing and isolation of high and low voltage electrical systems and proving dead.
- Risk‑based approach to electrical maintenance philosophies, including Failure Mode Effects Analysis and reliability processes.
- Drafting and publishing of electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
- Excellent work management, teamwork and communication skills.
- Current membership of a recognised engineering institution and Chartered Engineer registration with the UK Engineering Council, or evidence of working toward registration within 12 months.
- Valid UK driving licence.
Additional Information
This hybrid role will have a base location near your home, with some travel and overnighting as required. An incident management objective will be part of your development plan and we will provide appropriate training. Interviews will be held via MS Teams within three weeks of the closing date.
