We are now recruiting for a Senior Engineer - C&I to be involved in delivering an industry‑leading, cutting‑edge design project for a new type of nuclear power station.

Key Responsibilities

  • Working with Plant Process Engineers and other C&I Engineers to gather and develop system requirements.
  • Translate these requirements into design specifications for the hardwired protection and accident management systems.
  • Assess and substantiate that the design specification meets the requirements.
  • Ensure that the design is compliant against international standards, in particular IEC 61508 & IEC 61503.
  • Liaise with other disciplines to understand functional performance capabilities of components and systems to facilitate effective system design.
  • Support the planning and implementation of policies and procedures related to the life‑cycle of the systems.
  • Ensure that optimum solutions are provided for the RR SMR Nuclear Power Plant by supporting procurement, operations and maintenance aspects of the equipment.
  • Contribute to the production of safety cases and provide support in liaising with regulators and independent nuclear safety assessors.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Knowledge and experience in the systematic design lifecycle of C&I systems including specification, design, assessment, verification, testing, installation, commissioning and maintenance of safety or process‑critical C&I systems.
  • Good understanding of designing systems to be functionally resilient to faults (e.g., redundancy and diversity).
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards for safety‑critical systems (e.g., IEC 61508, IEC 61503).
  • Experience applying systems engineering methodologies, including Model‑Based Systems Engineering, to C&I systems.
  • Ability to present information in an appropriate and compelling format, including formal communications to stakeholders.
  • Capability to provide technical oversight of work carried out by supply chain partners (the intelligent customer role).

Qualifications

Typically you will have a degree‑level qualification in one or more of the engineering disciplines of electrical, electronics, instrumentation or control systems. Applicants without a degree but who can demonstrate suitable experience may also be considered. We welcome applications from a broad range of industries; nuclear experience is not essential.

Salary and Package

  • Salary: £51,600–£67,725 DOE
  • Bonus – Performance‑related target opportunity 12.5%
  • Benefits Allowance – £2,200 per annum, enabling you to create a bespoke package
  • Pension – 12% employer and 6% employee contributions
  • Holidays – 28 days holiday (+ public holidays) with the ability to buy or sell up to 4 days
