Your Role And Responsibilities

As a Senior Construction Engineer in our Transport Strategy team, you’ll lead a small group of Engineers and Technicians responsible for inspecting developer-funded highway schemes. You’ll ensure that all works meet national and Suffolk County Council design standards and specifications, and that records are accurately maintained for highway improvement and adoption.

You’ll manage the delivery of s38 and s278 agreements under the Highways Act, negotiating technical solutions for road layouts, junctions, drainage, and lighting. You’ll also ensure compliance with Construction Design Management (CDM) regulations, health and safety legislation, and traffic management requirements.

Your leadership will extend to mentoring junior staff, conducting performance reviews, and supporting recruitment. You’ll also represent the Highway Authority at public and planning meetings, and collaborate closely with planning and technical approval teams to ensure high-quality infrastructure delivery.

Your work will be based around the construction for the new nuclear power station, Sizewell C, in Suffolk.

The team

This role sits within the Transport Strategy Team, part of the Growth, Highways, and Infrastructure Directorate at SCC. The team is responsible for advancing Inclusive Growth through transport initiatives across Suffolk. You’ll work closely with colleagues in project management, planning, and highways who support the delivery of NSIPs.

You’ll be part of a supportive, inclusive, and dynamic team environment, engaging with a challenging and varied workload tied to high-profile construction projects.
