The Opportunity:
Murphy Geospatial, a leading European geospatial firm and proud member of Woolpert—a global AEG consultancy with over 2,700 professionals across 60+ offices is expanding its team in Ireland. We are seeking a Senior Engineering Geologist to play a key role in delivering geotechnical and geoenvironmental ground investigation projects within the newly established Ground Investigation Department. This role focuses on project management, technical delivery, and coordination with subcontractors and internal teams to ensure high-quality outputs. This role will also aid in developing and expanding the in-house ground investigation services that the department provides.
What will I be doing in my new role?
Manage and coordinate ground investigation projects from planning through to reporting, ensuring efficient fieldwork and timely delivery.
Liaise with subcontractors to guarantee compliant and on-schedule site works and reporting.
Supervise in-situ testing and sampling activities, maintaining adherence to technical standards.
Prepare, review, and deliver high-quality factual and interpretative reports to support project design and risk assessment.
Ensure health, safety, and environmental compliance across all project sites, including reviewing RAMS and promoting a proactive safety culture.
Identify and address potential Health & Safety breaches, suggesting improvements where needed.
Collaborate with geospatial and utility mapping teams to integrate ground investigation and geotechnical data into Murphy Geospatial’s broader service offerings.
Support procurement and mobilisation of equipment and materials.
Manage project contracts and subcontracts, including invoices and cashflow.
Contribute to the development of best practices and standard operating procedures.
Assist in training and development of new staff.
Identify new business development opportunities.
Requirements of the role:
Ability to travel to sites, clients, and other offices nationwide will be required.
Overnight stays may occasionally be necessary.
Degree in Geology, Civil Engineering, or related discipline.
Chartered or working toward chartership in a relevant field (e.g. CGeol)
Full clean UK/EU Driving License.
CSCS card (preferred but can be obtained post-hire).
Full rights to work in the UK
Experience in managing ground investigation projects across infrastructure or development sectors.
Strong understanding of in-situ testing methods (such as CPT, CBR, DCP, PLT) and logging to BS5930/Eurocode 7.
Proficiency in geotechnical software such as Bentley Open Ground.
