The Environment Agency is looking for an experienced investigator to join our National Investigations Team as a Senior Environmental Crime Officer.

You will work with Senior Investigation Managers and our Major Incident Room to lead investigations into the most serious and complex environmental crimes, coordinating and overseeing all aspects of investigations from initial lines of enquiry to casefile preparation and prosecution.

Role

Senior Environmental Crime Officer within the National Environmental Crime Unit, part of the National Regulation and Monitoring Team. The role involves leading, driving and developing investigative teams and complex investigations, including collaboration with Partnership Organisations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead investigations into the most serious and complex environmental crimes, coordinating and overseeing all aspects of investigations from identifying lines of enquiry to casefile preparation and prosecution.
  • Drive investigations forward by reviewing intelligence, raising and allocating actions, coordinating evidence gathering and interviews.
  • Work with Organised Crime Groups, illegal waste exports and large-scale fraud when involved in investigations.
  • Support the development of the team and contribute to the progression of investigations across the unit.

Team

This role sits within the National Environmental Crime Unit, part of the National Regulation and Monitoring Team. The National Investigations Team is a nationally dispersed group of Investigators focused on bringing serious environmental offenders to justice.

Experience/Skills Required

  • High level of attention to detail, hardworking and self-motivated with a strong investigative background.
  • In-depth knowledge of investigative legislation such as PACE and CPIA.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and basic IT competency (Microsoft Word, Excel and Teams).
  • Knowledge of environmental crime, leading on serious criminal investigations and workings of a Major Incident Room is desirable.
  • Experience in building and developing investigation teams and driving solutions.
  • Successful completion of SC and NPPV2 Vetting processes within a 6-month probationary period.
  • Full driving licence is required.

Role specifics

  • Hybrid working with flexible arrangements; frequent travel for meetings and operational duties.
  • Responding to incidents is a central part of the role; you may be required to take on an incident role and be available to respond or provide business continuity support. Additional payment, training and workplace adjustments may be provided.
